Travertines of Valle del Rio

South-facing wall that rises on the terraces of the now almost abandoned fruit and olive groves, in the shade formed by the river canyon as it passes through and in front of the “Tajo Colorado”.

Location

They are located south of the town, going down the road to the “la Suerte” area, which goes towards the river, and therefore on the right bank of the river. These formations appear in the form of large rocky walls. However, they are part of a larger edge on which the town is partly built.

Seasonal use

All year round

Outstanding values

Appreciable landscape interest as it is a rock that appears in curious shapes, giving rise to what are called “cliffs” here. It is a type of post-orogenic rock, of sedimentary origin, carbonated chemical nature and yellowish colour, perhaps due to the impurities of iron ore that emerges nearby. It is related to the water sources that make up the karst landscape.
