Chestnut grove of thela Huerta de las Monjas

It is part of a larger mass of chestnut trees with different levels of cover that are located around the river banks. In this area, the chestnut trees grow between approximately 900 and 950 metres. They extend on a slope towards the river, on a siliceous substrate with outcrops of mica schists. Associated with them we can find shrub and sub-shrub vegetation.
Location
We find it in the northern area of the municipality, and occupying the western slope of the river ravine (right bank). Inside it houses the recreational area “Huerta de las Monjas”.
Seasonal use
All year round, although especially recommended before the chestnut trees shed their leaves.
Outstanding values
This is a species of undoubted landscape, ecological and also ethnological value, which shelters a multitude of animal species, including the badger and wild boar (whose presence is evidenced by the frequent remains), and a large quantity of birdlife, with blackbirds, orioles, etc. Also noteworthy is the undergrowth of ferns and ombrophilous plants related to the chestnut grove, as well as the aquaculture ecosystem where it is easy to see the common trout.
